A few weekends ago we went out to the Voortrekker Monument. This is a huge structure built as a memorial to the first Afrikaners who trekked from the west to escape British rule. Inside is a museum with artifacts and details about the story of the Afrikaans people. It was very much like what a memorial to Mormon pioneers would be like. The clothes looked the same, they traveled in covered wagons, etc. Actually, the Afrikaners' trek east was occurring at nearly the same time as the Mormons' trek west.
We saw these guys on our way home.

Zebras!! Holy Cow that's awesome! Glad you guys are finding awesome places to go!
Evidence! Wow, so cool. Those are some neat parallels with the pioneers! And cute pics.
Dear Jill, I am enjoying your blog. I have so many questions. Do the members speak any English? Have you been able to go to the temple at all? Do you have any friends who you would trust watching Bryn? How is Justin's internship going? What is he doing, and is he gone 9-5 or does he have a flexable schedule? Is the food much different? How are your living conditions. What an adventure you are having. Love, Aunt Corinne
